Rarities
A
visit to Schloss Reinhartshausen and to its old vaulted cellars always
concludes with a glimpse into the well-stocked Schatzkammer.
For generations have cellar masters and estate managers together selected
the best of edelsüsse wines of each vintage, with a view to preserving
them for future generations as a most valuable “archive”
and “reminder” of Rheingau History and its viticulture.
In excess of 6000 bottles dating as far back as 1861 of the best edelsüsse
wines of the Castle are stored here in the Schatzkammer. They all
are testimony of the development of viticulture since that time. Wines
from the prime sites of Erbacher Marcobrunn and Schlossberg, Hattenheimer
Nussbrunnen and Wisselbrunnen, but also of the long forgotten, formerly
sought-after sites, as for example of Erbacher Brühl or Heiligenberg,
are stored in this cellar.
At special events and in particular at the VDP Auction of the Finest Wines
at the Monastery of Eberbach in September of each year, some
individual wines from the Schatzkammer are chosen for tasting or for
auction. Wines such as the 1911 Erbacher Marcobrunn Trockenbeerenauslese
and / or wines of comparable qualities have time and again achieved
prices of highest levels.
