The Wine Estate –
Wine Cellars
Hundreds of years of tradition in craftsmanship combined with modern
techniques of wine-making lay the foundation stone of our high quality
standards. Schloss Reinhartshausen has a particularly careful way
of cultivating its vines which naturally also affects the style of
our wines.
The wine is treated very carefully: grapes from our prime sites are
transported in small fibre crates and arrive completely unmarked for
pressing. An exact quantity of grapes is being processed to allow
a very careful pressing of the grapes. The cellar master produces
the top wines in small stainless steel tanks in order to preserve
the characteristics of each of the top class sites of Erbach and Hattenheim.
With individual temperature levels he controls the fermentation, allowing
the wine more time to ripen and protecting the subtle fruity aromas.
Particularly powerful wines with potential for longer ripening time
are stored in wood barrels traditional to the Rheingau. These “double-piece
barrels” give the wine the finishing touch and enhance their
varietal and typical character of the site. All wines are carefully
filtered before bottling.
A certain number of the many tastings are used by the Cellar master
and Estate manager to make their choices of the wines and barrels
assigned for individual bottling. Whilst excellent Rieslings are already
being chosen for the Cuvée of the “Gutswein” (Estate
wines), top class are undoubtedly the wines which are sold with the
labels of individual sites.
